Description

Blaenhenwysg and Rhiw-yr-uchain

Natural outcrop situated on top of hill overing looking Hopkinstown and Trehafod valley.

Countryside Park

The remains of a bridge provides an excellent wall for traversing.

Location

Blaenhenwysg and Rhiw-yr-uchain Turn right on the A4058 between Hopkinstown and Trehafod under a low bridge, hundred meters past the Holybush pub in Hopkinstown. After the bridge turn left, on the right is a lane that leads up to the outcrop. Parking's is possible on the main road before turning into the lane. On foot walk up the lane until it leads to a dirt track, follow this until you come to a fork in the path. The left fork is fenced off, through which lies a 2" diameter pipe leading up the hillside. Follow the pipe by going through the gate (and cattle grid) at the start of the right fork, making sure the gate is closed properly, rejoin the left fork to follow the pipe up the hillside until some outcrops are visible up on the horizon on your left amongst the trees.

Countryside Park Turn left on the A4058 between Hopkinstown and Trehafod over a small bridge, 400m past the Holybush pub in Hopkinstown. Follow the unmetalled track rightward for approximately 300m to the wall.

Blaenhenwysg and Rhiw-yr-uchain

A small boulder under a big tree, traverse is the only problem and is a project.

Next area is to the right of the path. Lots of roof problems from sitting start, none too technical but fairly physical. Dry in the rain. Some holds a bit dubious.

Right of this is a boulder in the trees . Only one problem here so far, on the far right side. Projects on the rest. Top needs further cleaning.

Follow the path further up the hillside to the obvious highish wall and to the left is an obvious perched boulder (053916) with 5 problems (4c-5b)
